About The App Digest

An almanac for Android software, arranged by the calendar and the alphabet rather than by a chart.

Why a calendar and an index

Charts reward whatever is already popular. The App Digest borrows a slower habit from almanacs: a single app set aside for each day, and a plain alphabetical index for looking things up. You come across something new without scrolling past the same top ten again.

What earns a day

An app is picked because it is useful and does what it claims, never because a publisher paid for the spot. The index prints publisher and rating beside every name so you can judge it yourself.

Set in advance

Each page is prepared ahead of time as flat HTML, the way an almanac is printed before the year begins. Nothing loads in afterwards.

Know an app that deserves a day?

Put it forward through the contact form. Suggestions are read by the people who assemble each week.

What stays out of the index

Repackaged installers, cracked premium unlocks and apps passing themselves off under another publisher name. None of those get an entry.

Who assembles it

The App Digest is put together by a few people who prefer reference books to feeds and wanted an app catalogue that reads like one.

The week turns over regularly, and entries for abandoned apps are removed from the index instead of being left to go stale.

A good index is a promise that you will find it where you expect it.
