A map shows earthquakes using circles whose size and colour indicate the event’s magnitude and age. You can narrow the map by region or magnitude, then open an individual event for more information. A timeline groups activity by today, yesterday and earlier days, while the catalogue supports searches by date, territory, city or reporting agency. Historical records extend back to 1970.

Alerts and source coverage

Notifications can be set up for up to four combinations of location and magnitude threshold. Alerts are sent when event information becomes available from an official source. Earthquake combines data from organisations including the USGS, EMSC, GeoScience Australia, GeoNet, NOAA, the British Geological Survey, GFZ GEOFON and Natural Resources Canada, along with several national services.
